With the stakes raised and dreams of silverware within reach, Al Ahli and Al Shahania will set the stage for the Amir Cup 2025 quarter-finals when they meet today at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. Al Ahli coach Igor Bišcan is urging his side to raise their level, knowing that cup football brings a different kind of pressure. The Brigadiers finished fourth in the Qatar Stars League and have the edge in head-to-head encounters this season, drawing 1-1 before clinching a narrow 3-2 victory in the return leg.
Despite the upper hand on paper, Bišcan stressed that Amir Cup fixtures demand mental sharpness and defensive discipline. "Our team has shown good attacking qualities, but we must also stay solid at the back," he noted. "We need to treat every game like a final. Cup matches are full of passion and unpredictability."
Al Ahli reached the last eight with an extra-time win over Qatar SC, while Al Shahania booked their spot with a victory over Mesaimeer. Their coach, José Murcia, is unfazed by the underdog label and is calling for laser focus from his players. “There is no room for mistakes. We’re not burdened by pressure—we’ll give everything to reach the semis,” Murcia said.
Later in the evening, the action shifts to Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, where in-form Umm Salal take on an inspired Al Shamal. Umm Salal come into the tie riding a wave of confidence after dismantling Al Wakrah 4-1 in the Round of 16 — their fourth straight win. Coach Patrice Beaumelle praised the team’s spirit while underlining the importance of maintaining balance. “We’ve been sharp in attack, but we need to strengthen our defence. Every cup game demands total effort,” he said.
Al Shamal, meanwhile, are chasing a historic run after reaching the quarter-finals for the first time. They stunned Al Arabi with a 3-1 comeback win and are eager to keep their fairytale alive. Coach David Prats urged his squad to remain grounded despite having beaten Umm Salal twice in the league. “This will be a different match. We’re focused, ready, and playing with a full squad. We want to keep making history.”
The quarter-final stage continues tomorrow with a highly anticipated showdown between Al Gharafa and Al Sadd at Al Thumama Stadium, wrapping up a thrilling weekend of knockout football.
