Al Rayyan Reshuffle Signals Ambition for 2025–26 Season

Alkass English

Al Rayyan SC’s pre-season rebuild is gathering pace as the club makes a statement of intent ahead of the 2025–2026 campaign. After a trophyless season—finishing runners-up in the Amir Cup and fifth in the Qatar Stars League—the Lions are making major moves under Portuguese coach Artur Jorge.

One of the biggest developments is the return of Qatari international Ahmed Alaaeldin from Al Arabi on a deal running through 2027. The forward previously spent seven years with Al Rayyan before spells at Al Gharafa and most recently Al Arabi.

Defensive reinforcements have also arrived, including Bahaa Ellethy from Al Ahli (contract until 2028) and rising talent Abdullah Yousef, who has committed to the club until 2030. In goal, Al Rayyan brought in Mahmoud Abunada from Al Arabi on a long-term deal through 2030.

At the same time, several notable departures have reshaped the squad. Brazilian defender Thiago Mendes, Paraguayan striker Adam Bareiro, goalkeeper Paulo Victor, Egyptian winger Mahmoud Trezeguet, Qatari midfielder Abdulrahman Al Harazi, and Iranian playmaker Ali Qaderi have all exited the club. Abdullah Al Ali has joined Qatar SC permanently, while young forward Ahmed Al Rawi moved to the same club on loan.

The club has not yet confirmed details of its pre-season training camp. The new QSL season kicks off on August 14.

Meanwhile, Al Ahli SC began their transfer window by signing French midfielder Ibrahim Diallo on loan from Al Khor. The 26-year-old, formerly of Southampton, is the club’s first foreign signing of the summer and will bolster their midfield for the season ahead.
