Team Qatar delivered a mixed set of results at the 2025 Asian Team Snooker Championship in Colombo, defeating host nation Sri Lanka before falling to a strong Pakistan side at the Moors Sports Club.

The Qatari trio of Ali Al Obaidly, Bashar Abdul Majeed, and Mohanna Al Obaidli earned a solid 3-1 win over Sri Lanka 1, rebounding from a narrow opening frame loss with dominant performances. Majeed’s flawless 71-0 win and a powerful 59-point break helped swing the momentum in Qatar’s favor, capped off by Al Obaidly’s 71-37 win to secure the victory.

However, Qatar faced a tough test against Pakistan 1, led by current IBSF World Champion Muhammad Asif and Awais Ullah Munir. Al Obaidly gave Qatar an early lead with an 81-47 frame win featuring a 60-point break, but Pakistan responded by sweeping the next three frames to clinch the match 3-1.

Qatar will now face Cambodia in their final round robin match today.

Individually, Al Obaidly also secured bronze in the 6-Red singles competition earlier this week, advancing to the semi-finals after impressive wins over players from Cambodia and Bahrain. His run ended with a 1-5 loss to India’s Paras Gupta.

The championship, organized by the Billiards & Snooker Association of Sri Lanka and sanctioned by the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports, concludes tomorrow.
