Al Wakrah SC has officially named Spanish manager Vicente Moreno as their new head coach on a two-season deal, running until 2027. The announcement came on Saturday, with the club confirming that Moreno will succeed Poya Asbaghi, whose contract expired at the end of last season.
Moreno brings with him a wealth of managerial experience. His most recent stint was with Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia, where he took charge in July 2022. His coaching journey began in 1995 with Valencia’s youth teams and has included notable tenures at Guadix, Xerez, Gimnàstic, Real Mallorca, and Espanyol.
At Gimnàstic, Moreno oversaw 147 matches (2013–2016) in what remains his longest spell at a single club.
He then led Mallorca through 133 matches from 2017 to 2020, guiding them through successive promotions.
His time at Espanyol (2020–2022) spanned 85 matches, while he earlier managed Xerez in 26 games.
Al Wakrah will be aiming for a stronger campaign under Moreno’s leadership after finishing eighth in the Qatari Stars League last season.
