Today marks exactly two years until the tip-off of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, the pinnacle of international basketball. The tournament will open on 27 August 2027 and conclude with the final at Lusail Multipurpose Hall on 12 September 2027.

To mark this milestone, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) announced the four official venues that will host all 92 games of the World Cup: Lusail Multipurpose Hall, Duhail Sports Hall, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena, and Al Janoub Stadium. For the duration of the tournament, they will be renamed Lusail Arena, Duhail Arena, Al Attiyah Arena, and Al Janoub Arena, ensuring consistency in branding.

In a historic first for the Basketball World Cup, matches will be staged inside a stadium originally built for the FIFA World Cup. Al Janoub Stadium will be transformed into a basketball arena with seating for more than 8,000 fans, highlighting Qatar’s commitment to sustainability and its vision of linking two global sporting legacies.

Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb, Director-General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, and Member of the FIBA Foundation, reflected on the journey and ambitions ahead. “Two years ago, Qatar won the bid to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. It is a great honor and responsibility to deliver the best World Cup in history while continuing our country’s legacy of hosting world-class events. Three of our venues are ready, and we are working on one of the most unique projects in our sport—transforming a football stadium into a basketball arena. Al Janoub Arena will be the pinnacle of our efforts.

Our goal is to raise awareness and leave a legacy for basketball in Qatar and across the MENA region. In two years, fans from around the globe will gather here, and with the support of our government and partners, we are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience for the basketball world.”

To celebrate the “Two Years to Go” milestone, FIBA—together with the Local Organizing Committee—has launched a fan registration platform. Supporters can sign up to stay connected with tournament news, early ticketing opportunities, and exclusive updates as the countdown continues.
