The third edition of the Al Thumama Ramadan Tournament is set to kick off tomorrow evening at Al Furjan Stadium, placing a spotlight on emerging young football talent as community competition builds momentum across the capital.
Organised in cooperation with the Qatar Sports for All Federation, the annual event is dedicated to grassroots football, inviting boys aged 10 to 14 (born between 2012 and 2016) to showcase their skills under competitive yet educational conditions.
Chairman of the Organising Committee and Municipal Council member Hassan Al Ishaq confirmed that all preparations have been completed to ensure a smooth and successful tournament. Al Ishaq emphasised that the competition builds on past achievements, with a focus on encouraging youth participation and instilling values such as sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork.
The opening night will feature three matches starting at 8:00 pm, with Doha facing Turki Bin Abdullah, followed by Al Wajba versus Al Zaeem, and concluding with Al Rayyan taking on hosts Al Thumama. A total of three fixtures will be played each evening throughout Ramadan at Al Furjan Stadium.
This year’s competition includes 13 teams drawn into two groups. Group A comprises Doha, Turki Bin Abdullah, Al Wajba, Al Zaeem, Al Rayyan and Al Thumama, while Group B features Al Dafna, Al Shaab, Al Waab, Medical Care, Palestine, Abu Nakhla and Al Shahaniya.
Interest in the tournament was high, with 39 teams applying to participate. After a technical review, 26 were excluded for not meeting the requirements, leaving 13 teams to compete at the grassroots event.
Al Ishaq praised the strong community engagement and the federation’s support, noting that the tournament aims to strengthen sports within neighbourhoods and make playgrounds safe, attractive spaces for children. The initiative also aligns with Qatar’s broader vision of nurturing young sporting talent across all levels.
