HE President of the Asian Olympic Council and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, crowned Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz as champion of the 2026 Qatar ExxonMobil Open following a commanding performance in the tournament’s 34th edition at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
The world No. 1 was presented with the prestigious Golden Falcon trophy, while France’s Arthur Fils received the runner-up award. The ceremony was attended by HE President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation, Nasser bin Ghanem Al Khelaifi.
Alcaraz captured his maiden Qatar Open title in emphatic fashion, defeating world No. 40 Fils 6-2, 6-1 in a one-sided final. The victory marked the Spaniard’s third win over Fils in as many ATP Tour meetings.
The triumph adds to an already glittering résumé for Alcaraz, who now owns 25 career titles, including seven Grand Slam crowns — most recently the 2026 Australian Open. The Doha title came in his second consecutive appearance at the tournament, having exited in last year’s quarterfinals after a three-set defeat to Czech player Jiri Lehecka.
This year, Alcaraz produced a dominant campaign from start to finish. He opened with a 6-4, 7-6 win over France’s Arthur Rinderknech, before defeating compatriot Valentin Royer 6-2, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals.
In the last eight, the Spanish star rallied past 2024 champion Karen Khachanov 6-7, 6-4, 6-3. He then delivered another composed display in the semifinals, overcoming 2025 champion Andrey Rublev 7-6, 6-4 to book his place in the final.
Fils, meanwhile, enjoyed an impressive run to the championship match. The Frenchman began with a hard-fought 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak before defeating compatriot Quentin Halys 6-1, 7-6 in the round of 16.
He continued his strong form in the quarterfinals with a straight-sets win over Lehecka (6-3, 6-3), and advanced to the final after defeating Czech rising star Jakub Mensik 6-4, 7-6 in the semifinals.
Despite falling short in the final, Fils’ performance underlined his growing stature on the ATP Tour, while Alcaraz once again reaffirmed his dominance on the global stage with a commanding title run in Doha.
