Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan delivered a dominant performance to book their place in the semi-finals of the Asian Beach Games – Sanya 2026.
The top-seeded duo swept past China in straight sets, 2–0 (21–10, 21–19), in Monday’s quarter-final. After a commanding display in the opening set, the Qatari pair showed resilience in the second, overturning a brief deficit with composure and precision to seal victory.
Their performance once again highlighted the experience and chemistry that have established them among Asia’s elite. They now face Thailand in a highly anticipated semi-final, with a place in the final at stake. In the other last-four clash, Iran will meet Oman.
Handball Team Maintains Perfect Run
Qatar’s handball team continued their impressive campaign, finishing the group stage unbeaten to top Group B and secure a semi-final showdown with Bahrain.
They wrapped up the preliminary round with a controlled 2–0 win over the Maldives (26–12, 18–16), dominating early before holding firm in a tighter second set. The victory extended Qatar’s flawless run, having already defeated Pakistan, Oman, Bangladesh, Mongolia, Jordan, and Thailand.
Their consistent performances underline their status as strong title contenders. Meanwhile, Iran—Group A winners—will take on Thailand in the other semi-final.
3x3 Basketball Teams Advance
Qatar’s men’s 3x3 basketball team also impressed, clinching a 15–12 win over India to top Group C with a perfect record and advance to the quarter-finals.
The team showcased sharp execution and fast-paced play throughout the group stage, building momentum with earlier victories over Bahrain and Kazakhstan. They will now face the winner of Iran vs. Hong Kong for a place in the semi-finals.
In the women’s competition, Qatar progressed to the second round after finishing third in Group A and are set to meet Singapore in their next outing.
Medal Race Heats Up
In the overall standings, China leads the medal table with 30 medals (14 gold, 11 silver, 5 bronze). Thailand follows with 15 medals, while the Philippines sits third with seven, as the competition intensifies across disciplines.
