Carlos Prates left little doubt about his intentions after delivering a commanding third-round knockout over Jack Della Maddalena in the headline bout of UFC Perth.
The Brazilian contender, now 7-1 in the UFC with every win coming by knockout, believes his résumé speaks for itself. Having already beaten former champion Leon Edwards and now adding Maddalena to his list, Prates made it clear he sees himself as the next challenger for the welterweight crown.
While he admitted the fight was more competitive than expected early on, Prates stayed composed and confident in his approach, eventually finding the finish he anticipated. Rather than rushing, he managed the fight carefully, waiting for the right moment to close the show.
Looking ahead, Prates is keeping a close eye on the title picture, including a possible showdown with Islam Makhachev. He also brushed aside concerns about facing elite wrestlers, pointing to his background in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and his comfort in grappling exchanges.
With momentum building and statement victories stacking up, Prates is pushing hard to secure his place at the front of the welterweight title race.
