Al Rayyan strengthened their position at the top of the Doha Bank Stars League with a convincing 6-1 victory over Al Sailiya, while defending champions Al Sadd revived their title campaign with a 4-0 triumph over Al Shahaniya in an action-packed seventh round that concluded on Saturday.

The round, played over three days, featured five victories and one draw, with 29 goals scored across six matches. Al Rayyan remain unbeaten on 17 points, two clear of second-placed Al Sadd, as the battle for the league title intensifies.

Al Rayyan maintain their dominance

Al Rayyan delivered the standout performance of the round, overwhelming Al Sailiya 6-1 to record their fifth victory of the season. The result followed a goalless draw against Al Gharafa in the previous round and extended their unbeaten record to seven matches, including two draws.

The league leaders now have 17 points and remain firmly in control of the standings as they pursue the title.

In contrast, Al Sailiya's struggles continued. The heavy defeat marked their sixth loss of the campaign, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point.

Al Sadd return to winning ways

Defending champions Al Sadd responded to two consecutive defeats with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Al Shahaniya, restoring confidence ahead of their upcoming AFC Champions League fixture against Saudi Arabia's Al Qadisiyah on Monday.

Under Romanian coach Razvan Lucescu, Al Sadd showed renewed focus and attacking intent to secure three important points and move to 15 points in second place.

Star forward Akram Afif was among the highlights of the match, scoring twice to take his tally to seven goals and join Al Arabi's Pablo Sarabia at the top of the league's scoring charts.

Al Shahaniya, meanwhile, suffered their second consecutive defeat after their 6-0 loss to Al Arabi in the sixth round. They remain eighth with seven points.

Al Gharafa surrender advantage against Al Ahli

Al Gharafa missed the opportunity to secure a much-needed victory after surrendering a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw against Al Ahli.

The match featured fluctuating possession and attacking exchanges as both teams pushed for all three points.

The result extended Al Gharafa's disappointing run, leaving them with just one victory, three draws and three defeats. The former title contenders remain 10th with six points.

Al Ahli, meanwhile, avoided a second consecutive defeat and moved to eight points, maintaining seventh place.

Qatar SC claim first victory

Qatar SC finally registered their first win of the season, edging Al Shamal 3-2 in a closely contested encounter.

After three draws and three defeats in their opening six matches, the victory lifted Qatar SC to six points. They remain 11th, second from bottom, but will hope the result marks a turning point in their campaign.

Al Shamal, last season's runners-up, endured another setback as their winless run extended to four matches. Their second defeat of the season left them on nine points and dropped them to sixth place.

Al Wakrah stun Al Arabi

Al Wakrah continued their impressive run by overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat Al Arabi 3-2 in one of the round's most competitive matches.

The comeback secured Al Wakrah's third consecutive victory and lifted them to fifth place with 11 points, underlining their growing momentum as the season progresses.

Al Arabi, who had enjoyed an unbeaten start to the campaign, suffered their first defeat of the season. They remain on 12 points but slipped to fourth place.

Al Duhail extend winning streak

Al Duhail completed the round with a 3-1 victory over Lusail, recording their third consecutive win and strengthening their position among the league's leading contenders.

Al Duhail controlled much of the match and created numerous scoring opportunities. Lusail's goalkeeper produced several impressive saves, particularly in the first half, to prevent the margin from growing before Al Duhail secured the result.

The victory further strengthened Al Duhail's upward trajectory as they look to close the gap on the teams above them.

League statistics underline attacking trend

The seventh round's 29 goals continued an entertaining season in the Doha Bank Stars League.

According to the competition statistics provided, 42 matches had been played following the sixth round, producing 29 victories and 13 draws. A total of 152 goals had been scored at an average of 3.6 per match.

The statistics also recorded 18 penalties, of which 15 were converted and three missed, alongside 166 yellow cards and seven red cards.

In the individual scoring race, Al Sadd's Akram Afif and Al Arabi's Pablo Sarabia share first place with seven goals each. Al Sadd forward Roberto Firmino follows in third with six.

Eighth round promises more crucial encounters

The eighth round is scheduled to begin next Friday, with fixtures spread across two days and several important clashes on the programme.

Al Shahaniya will face Al Ahli at Al Khor Stadium in the opening match, followed by Al Sadd against Al Shamal at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

Elsewhere, Al Gharafa will meet Qatar SC at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium, while Al Sailiya take on Lusail at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium. Al Arabi and Al Rayyan will meet at Al Thumama Stadium in a fixture that could have significant implications for the title race.

The round will conclude with Al Duhail facing Al Wakrah at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium.

With Al Rayyan setting the pace, Al Sadd regaining momentum and Al Wakrah continuing their winning streak, the next round promises further movement in an increasingly competitive league.
