Qatar’s Ammar Ismail delivered a memorable performance in the men’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, securing his place in the semi-finals.
The reigning Asian champion stormed through the heats with a powerful finish, setting a new personal best of 44.63 seconds — also the season’s best time in Asia. His run earned him 16th place overall among the 24 athletes who qualified for the next round.
Ismail will line up in the first semi-final on Monday at 3:35 PM Doha time.
Qatar’s campaign continues across multiple events: in the men’s 400m hurdles, former world bronze medalist and Asian record holder Abderrahman Samba joins Asian champion Bassem Hemeida and Ismail Doudai Abakar, with heats starting at 1:35 PM.
In the pole vault, Seif Mohamed — fresh off setting a new national record on Saturday — will compete in the medal round at 1:49 PM.
Finally, Omar Doudai Abakar will contest the men’s 110m hurdles heats at 2:23 PM, aiming to finish among the top 24 and book his place in the semi-finals.
