Al Gharafa head coach Pedro Martins has stressed his team's determination to return to winning ways when they face Al Duhail in Week 9 of the 2026-2027 Doha Bank Stars League, despite a demanding fixture schedule and recent disappointing results.
Speaking to the media ahead of the encounter, Martins acknowledged the challenges of playing five matches in just 15 days, but insisted that his side has remained focused on preparing for the important fixture.
“As you know, playing five matches in 15 days is extremely challenging, especially given our recent, less-than-satisfactory results. Nevertheless, we have navigated this situation with a clear focus on preparing effectively for the upcoming match,” Martins said.
The Al Gharafa coach also highlighted the strength of their opponents, describing Al Duhail as a formidable side that has evolved its playing style, particularly in its defensive approach.
“Al Duhail are a very strong side, they favour a high-pressing game and have adjusted their style of play, particularly in defence, compared to last season,” he said.
Martins also pointed to Al Duhail's position at the top of the standings, level on points with Al Rayyan and Al Sadd, noting that the encounter carries significant importance for their opponents.
“We are aware that they will enter the match with great confidence, especially since they currently sit at the top of table, level on points with Al Rayyan and Al Sadd. Consequently, this is a highly-significant match for them,” he added.
Meanwhile, Al Gharafa player Ayoub Al Oui expressed confidence in the team's preparations, emphasising the squad's determination to secure victory and collect all three points.
Al Oui said that preparations have been progressing positively, with the players maintaining their focus and commitment despite the limited recovery time between matches.
“Thankfully, our preparations are progressing well, characterized by the same level of seriousness, determination and resolve. Despite the limited time available for recovery, we are doing our best to manage the situation, and our ambition is to win and secure the three points,” he said.
With both sides aiming to strengthen their league campaigns, Al Gharafa will be hoping to overcome their recent setbacks and deliver a positive result against a confident Al Duhail side in what promises to be an important Week 9 encounter.
